About Lisa

Spending time with her grandparents on their farm as a youth, Lisa learned the value in making bread starting with home grown grains, and picking vegetables from their garden just in time for dinner. She came to understand the fundamental role that nutrients have on our bodies, and knew nutrition and wellness were her true calling.

Lisa’s nutrition philosophy is based on healthy preparation of an organic whole food diet

As a lifelong athlete, and as a triathlete, she has used her nutrition knowledge to optimize performance and overall wellness. Lisa balances her passion for nutrition and cooking with biking, hiking, running, yoga, skiing, kayaking and spending time with her nieces and nephews.

Philosophy

Lisa’s nutrition philosophy is based on healthy preparation of an organic whole food diet, tailored to the needs and goals of each individual. For Lisa, nutrition has always been a lifestyle, never a ‘diet’. She believes that quality nutrition combined with an active lifestyle and positive attitude can further enhance the health of a generally healthy person and help to prevent, minimize and eliminate potential health conditions.

Lisa Michelle Miller, BS, NC

Lisa Michelle Miller is a Nutrition Consultant and is a member of the National Association of Nutrition Professionals (nanp.org). She graduated with honors and earned a certification in Nutrition Consulting from the state licensed Bauman College, College of Holistic Nutrition and Culinary Arts in Berkeley, California.

In addition to her private nutrition practice in the San Francisco East Bay, Lisa is the Nutrition Program Director and an instructor of nutrition and cooking classes at Kitchen on Fire cooking school in Berkeley. Lisa also teaches her nutrition discussion series at a wellness center and other locations in the area, as well as on-line to small groups utilizing Skype.

Lisa has a Bachelor of Science degree, with experience in the health care, agriculture and consumer products industries and years of training and personnel development experience.

Nutrition Classes and at Kitchen on Fire

There are 3 Class Formats

1.   Nutrition Series

4-week series: 4 90-minute classes in the Berkeley/Oakland area.  (This series is taught in different combinations of weeks (2, 3 or 4 week series) and class hours, see calendar for latest offerings.)

  • Proteins & fats for growth & repair
  • Cleansing & protective complex carbs
  • Boost your immune system
  • Allergy-Free Eating
  • Gain Energy & Lose Weight
  • Maximizing Micronutrients
  • Maintain energy throughout the day

Handouts and presentation materials will be provided. Also a healthy snack and herb tea will be served at each class. Classes are taught in a live classroom setting in Oakland and Berkeley. Oakland (Rockridge) location. Another Series via Skype/GotoMeeting will be posted soon!

2.   Cooking Classes with a Nutritional Focus

Learn the nutritional aspects of specific health conditions or focus areas through a hands-on cooking class. The class format is similar to our other cooking classes, though has a nutrition discussion for about 30-45 minutes at the beginning of the class (discussion materials are provided to students in additional to the recipe packet) and more time for Q&A during our dinner time at the end of the class. 3.   Cooking Classes with a Healthy Cooking Focus

Learn the nutritional aspects of healthy cooking focuses on healthy recipes and techniques to meet specific goals through a hands-on cooking class. The class format is similar to our other cooking classes, though has a technique and/or menu discussion for about 10-20 minutes at the beginning of the class and more time for Q&A during our dinner time at the end of the class. If there is something you are interested in and do not see it posted soon, please contact me directly. Some of these classes are a little longer than the typical 3-hour class.
